Chapter 6: The Flight
You turn and sprint down the hallway, your footsteps echoing like gunshots in the eerie silence. The portraits on the walls seem to twist, their painted faces sneering at your retreat. Behind you, the unmistakable sound of footsteps grows louder.
Reaching the elevator, you frantically press the button, each second feeling like an eternity. At last, the doors slide open, and you step inside, slamming the "Close" button. The doors shut just as a shadowy hand reaches toward you. The elevator begins its rapid descent, and for a moment, relief washes over you.
But when the doors open, the sight before you freezes the breath in your lungs. You are not on the ground floor. Instead, you’ve arrived in an unmarked subbasement, the dim light revealing cold, bare walls and an unsettling stillness.
